Why have we highlighted these VPNs?
Most VPNs can get through Netflix. Far fewer handle BBC iPlayer consistently, and that's the test we care most about. iPlayer checks more signals than almost any other streaming service, so a VPN that passes it tends to work across everything else too. If you're outside the UK, the same three VPNs handle Netflix US, Hulu, Amazon Prime Video, and Peacock just as well.
To qualify as working in our tests, a VPN has to get through cleanly on at least three separate UK servers, not just one lucky attempt. We test seven UK services including BBC iPlayer, ITVX, Channel 4, and Netflix UK, on a residential connection in south-east England, at multiple times of day.
We've tried more than 20 VPNs. These three are the ones that passed consistently. A few tested properly is more useful than a long list tested quickly. Read our full testing methodology.
